East and West join in a carved Indian box. Buddha resting on a horse tailbone with old Japanese paper money hanging in the background. A brush handle holds flowers...a tiny tokonoma. Mary is high on her iron pedestal, an old cotter pin box as her halo. Cotter pins, and two ends of an antique silver and jade hair stick, from Japan fan at her feet. Bone skulls are a reminder that there is an end to this journey. What will you do with the time you have left?
"Raised in the Southwest and having lived a number of years in Japan, I have had the opportunity to collect bits and pieces of culture not my own. My studio is filled with chest. The chests are filled with drawers, which are filled with intriguing, eclectic oddments. The objects in the drawers speak to me. The challenge is to get them out of the drawers to speak to someone else. I hope you are listening. XO"-VL
